Fuck The Man.

Lovely. All this getting up early for work on the days when I'm not getting up even earlier for classes apparently results in waking up at quarter to seven and not being able to get back to sleep.

So now I'm going to pester you about what's keeping me awake. Yes, this actually keeps me awake, apparently, because I have such an emotional investment in it, and because now I can't get back to sleep. And so I want you to go read WilWheaton.Net's entry for August 28, 2002 on his experiences with Star Trek's for-profit conventions. Yeah, a lot of it's his personal stuff, but there's an overall view of the business of it - and how the shift to for-profit only ever helps the people who take over the convention. It just sickens me, literally physically makes my stomach churn, to think of our little fandom getting pounced upon by outsiders like a moth in a web. Yeah, I know it's about the pinnacle of geeky, and not even the good kind, to get so worked up about something like this. When you go to the same fan-run event designed to (ideally) earn just enough to maintain itself and give the fans as much of the benefit as possible for 10 years and then it gets taken over by The Man, you come tell me how you feel about it.

Actually, I suppose it's not too different from how I felt when WHFS went corporate, so there you go. And you know what? Now they're a Spanish station.
