Finally.
After a week of pestering GameStop employees and scouring message boards in search of information about when I might actually be allowed to purchase a Game Boy Micro (Graham's comping me most of the price as my birthday present), I have one in my hands. A friend I talked to about it last week IMed me to let me know that he found one this morning at a TRU, so I stopped by Target on the way to campus to get Friday's lab work made up, and lo and behold there was my baby. The guy who opened the case for me hadn't even noticed they had them in yet. I realize the price seems unreasonable for what it is on the surface, but handling it I can understand: it's got a metal case that's definitely a step up in durability and feel from previous GB systems, and even more than the SP it feels like an adult gadget. The faceplates are nice, I have the camo one on now, and it comes with this snazzy little tool for popping them off so they can be secure enough to toss around in your bag. Also, it comes with a little pouch to keep it in. I spent a couple hours tonight playing Riviera, which I consider a serious test of screen size with its tiny, tiny attack text, and I had no problem reading it. The second-lowest light setting is perfect for indoor play, and the colors were perfectly sharp and clear. I am in love.

BotCon Stuffs #1
When they got bored at the Hasbro booth on Saturday and Sunday, Aaron and Eric sketched on some big sheets of cardboard they seemed to have bought for that purpose. After a sketch on the special IDW TF #0 cover turned out to be a fanchar that Eric sketched for someone, I got him to do Trixter from Shum's art in Bootleg:
Later, Aaron sketched up a Prime head on his own, and I ended up with it. Hey, I do like Prime:

Have a quick meme.
Cute as can be, kittens are playful, mischevious, and ever-curious. Your mischevious side is part of what makes you a kitten, as is your dislike of getting wet! Kittens are often loving, but are known to scratch or bite when annoyed. These adorable animals are the most popular pets in the United States--37% of American households have at least one cat. Whether it is your gentle purr or your disarming appearance, you make a wonderful kitten. You were almost a: Monkey or a Bear Cub
You are least like a: Chipmunk or a DucklingWhat Cute Animal Are You?

AHHHHHHH!
AHHHHHHHH! AHHHH! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
*gasp*
Too much going on this week. My birthday was very nice, we went to the zoo and saw all the critters some more, and thanks again to people who gave me stuff. Tonight was the first night of Autumn Quarter, and I will be thrilled when I get past the level of classes where they feel a need to review HOW TO CREATE A FOLDER, and then there are people in the class who need INDIVIDUAL ASSISTANCE with this. Also, I hatehateHATE every single EB or GameStop that says they will have the Micro in "tomorrow", because tomorrow has yet to come. We leave in, oh, about 8 hours for Indy to catch a cheapish flight to Dallas for BotCon, and I know the tension, sleep deprivation, and allergies will make me barf come morning.
So there. I just felt bad for not posting for so long.

Finally, a post about games other than Nintendogs.
I didn't realize it was so late in the month: Nintendo's finally revealed their Revolution controller. And it's no touch-screen, no virtual reality headsets, just total design. Nice. Now let's see how well it works. :)
Though using my right thumb for the D-pad is gonna be WEIRD...

OMG FIREMAN'S HAT
Found the Fireman's Hat in Nintendogs, which means I am now the proud owner of a dalmatian named Dorothy. (Dottie sounded too much like Arkady.) I also have another one I inexplicably found later in the day that I'd be up to giving someone at BotCon.
The Bootleg has been completed but for the printing. And that seems like it's going to be the trick. My friend Shum ran into some problems getting the whole 200-copy run done at his office, Recharge should be able to get the other half done just before he leaves for Texas, but it's all gonna be wait-and-see for a bit. I hate having things left this uncertain, but there's not a lot to be done for it. Next year I'll start the planning way in advance and hopefully be making enough money to just foot the Kinko's bill. We'll see. I'm really pleased with how it's come out so far. It's come in at 43 pages and I didn't have to kick anybody out for space.

Happy Anniversary or something.
Sometime in September two years ago I started keeping a blog. I can't tell what day for sure because my archives from September and October 2003 seem to have gotten corrupted or something, and I didn't start the LiveJournal mirror until October of that year. Maybe I should look into fixing that. I sure do bitch about writer's block less than I used to. It's not even that it's not still there. I just don't whine about it as much.
My English grade finally went into the system, and it's yet another 4.0 quarter for me! I feel like a bit of a lightweight doing that with only two classes, but I do work 40 hours a week on top of it. Next quarter I tackle PC Hardware and PC Applications 2!
I have three days off in a row this week, 'cause we get one holiday a month at work and today is mine. Usually it'd be used next week, on my birthday, but because of the days I'm taking off for BotCon at the end of next week it'll likely just be one of my normal days off. I assume I'll get my birthday off, because the lady doing the scheduling now was one of the people who called Mark out on telling people in the interview they got their birthdays off and then never actually scheduling them that way, 'cause in the interview he was mostly just reading from a list and that was on there. Tomorrow's a big social day, with comics and all, and Ron's gonna be around Thursday evening, but in between all that I plan to spend some more time with my puppies and see if the networking stuff we covered at the end of my PC OS class helps me with my Linux problems. Also, the Bootleg, which I extended the deadline on for a couple people because I needed more art to break up all the text stories I recieved and I blew the deadline to get them printed last weekend anyway. By the time I go back to work I intend to have a completely final PDF of it, and I'll probably go ahead and send that around to the contributors Thursday night. It'll go up on the site when I get back on Monday, so everybody who couldn't make it can print out their own copies. And we'll sign them for FREE.
I didn't even know until last night that the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy DVD was out today, but a walk to Target today remedied my aching lack of that. I realized a while back that I'd probably appreciate the soundtrack more once I had the DVD and had watched the movie a couple more times over. I know that made me appreciate the Shaun of the Dead soundtrack a little more, because I could more readily associate the instrumentals with their respective scenes. Of course, that one was a little lighter on the instrumentals...
I also realized that I don't really save any money by walking to Target rather than driving, because I inevitably duck into UDF or 7-11 for a Jones Soda or a Slurpee because it's kinda hot out. But I would rather that buck-fifty or so be going to them than to the gas companies, and it's not releasing toxins into the air.
Oh, and on the subject of birthdays, I forgot two other CDs I'd like: the latest from Death Cab for Cutie and the latest from New Order. Seriously, can't you see that last album cover being Graham's favorite album cover ever? It's plain white and just says "No" in big orange letters.

I think I prefer scissors and glue...
Working on the Bootleg today. I've actually got a lot more fiction than art, which is welcome but not what I was expecting. I guess limiting it to black and white art put a damper on what a lot of people like to show off these days. Can you imagine a B&W Dreamwave-style comic? I need to talk to the guy who's making the printing happen and the guy who's making it be at BotCon about timing this. Also, Word's a big pain in the ass, but I suppose I should get back into it since I'm taking the second part of the Office course (PC Applications II) next quarter. I got a 90 on my CIT 121 final, and combined with the 104 from the midterm and the cumulative 98 from lab assignments I got a solid A for the course. Most of the things I had trouble with on the final were things we covered recently, backing up my theory that it just takes time for some of it to sink in. I'm going to keep at it so I'm still fresh when A+ Certification time comes. My English instructor hasn't put the grades in yet for that, but I feel pretty confident that this will be my third 4.0 quarter.

I'm swearing off morning classes...
Guh. I'm just way too tired and busy and overwhelmed. And I have a paper to finish and a fairly hard final to study for, all due first thing Tuesday morning, and I don't have anything close to a day off 'til Thursday.
But I do have a second puppy. Graham talked me out of naming him Hiro because it was a silly name for a husky, and it wasn't too hard because I had hit a wall with that theme idea anyway. So I named him Arkady, and screw the theme. Arkady is an awesome name and I'm happy for an excuse to use it. Though he sucks ass with the frisbee and he's afraid of everything. Maybe if I get a Shiba I'll name it Hiro.
I'm planning to get started on the cover page for Transformers Bootleg on Thursday, now that I have Shum's strip for the cover. I'm doing the cover in a newsletter style, which is more work than slapping a logo on a pinup and calling it a cover, but I think it'll be more eye-catching with content on the front. And if the table of contents is on the front people can glance at it and say, "Hey, I've seen that guy's posts," and pick it up. I've gotten some really good submissions, I think just about the right number. Don't want it too big, after all.

Just to get it out of the way...
Yes, I know there are many important issues going on in the country at this very moment. But my birthday is happening in a few weeks regardless, so I will post my annual blog birthday wish-list. For your convenience most of this stuff is available online to save gas money. ;)
- The Game Boy Micro. Which comes out on my birthday. When I will be broke.
- Money, while we're on the subject of broke.
- That new Gorillaz CD
- Ooo, and that new Beck CD, too.
- The Art of Usagi Yojimbo
- Maybe something nice and up-to-date on A+ Certification, on the subject of books.
- That War Within Optimus Prime statue
- Those GaoGaiGar Microman toys
- A gift certificate for ThinkGeek.com
- A gift certificate for GameSkins
- A gift certificate for SplitReason - or maybe just their extra-super-awesome Mushroom hoodie.
That's all I can think of right now. Random other things are always welcome, but there's some ideas.
